Champagne dial, two-tone Jubilee

The 16233 is the two-tone Datejust of the 1990s with a fluted bezel. Here the champagne sunburst dial is a shade warmer than the plating around it, and the gold-tone batons and hands blend in, so the watch reads as one gold colour from a distance. Compared with the steel 16220 with the engine-turned bezel it is much brighter, and compared with the pink 278240 with a smooth bezel it is a larger, plainer case for a bigger wrist.

Plating and steel

The yellow parts are gold plating over steel: bezel, crown and the middle row of Jubilee links. The case flanks and outer links stay steel, which is what gives the two-tone look. Gold models in our shop are steel with gold plating, not solid metal.

Japanese: a Miyota-based automatic, 21,600 vph, roughly 40 hours of reserve. Swiss: built to follow the 3235 type, 28,800 vph, roughly 70 hours.
